What Happened to Slaver's Exile?
Out of pure curiosity, since last night in Slaver's Exile (only Duncan's area, haven't noticed this in thom/rand, selve, or forge), the aggro has not been staying on the tank. Regardless of who I have gone with (and I have been going with people who have been doing it flawlessly many times), the aggro just runs right by the tank no matter how far away we are, and the first group obliterates us.
Did Anet do something to make it harder? (regardless of mode, the aggro still does this even in NM) If so, why wasn't it mentioned in the game updates? Of course, if this is just one long string of bad luck, disregard this. My guild and many others have told me that the same things have been happening to them in Duncan's area of Slaver's. |

I think it might just be your bad luck because I personally didn't have that problem today... maybe I'm just lucky though

Do you have cookies in your pockets? that'd be a logical explanation, I know they love cookies.

My senses tell me that you are standing too close to the tank, or you have a bad tank. I only seem to have that problem on a few mobs in Duncan. The key is to stay at least 1.5 agro bubbles away from the tank when he's gathering agro. If your group does not have this concept down I suggest finding a new PuG. What can also be the casue of this is your tank standing too far away from physical barriers, which are key in tanking Slaver's Exile. If you're tank is standing too far away, get a new tank.
Also, make sure your elementalists start the attack with meteor shower, and not Savanah Heat for knockdown on top of snares. Last edited by You can't see me; Jan 13, 2008 at 06:16 AM // 06:16.. |

That happened to me the other day in Cathedral of Flames. The Charr just ran past Melonni and took a bite out of me. I was wearing tat armor so I don't have any pockets for cookies. |

BTW - does this part of the game NEED aggro control?
Or can be it be done without the use of farming strategies? (Just wondering since I don't have GWEN ....) |

Just don't use a tank.
Problem solved. There might be something to this cookie business, too. Make sure you query all party memebers before heading out just in case. Especially the monks. Monsters know monks have the tastiest cookies. |

Tank biases aside, no area in the game requires any character class... except of course Monk.

No, not even Monk. There's the 12 Warriors in the Deep, Avarre has run 8 Mesmers in FoW, I saw an 8 Paragon team in FoW, and I seem to recall an 8 Ranger team in UW when the game first came out. That's just a few I've seen here on Guru. I'm sure it has been done many more times with other classes.

Tank in slaver's = ball up enemies at a corner, survives 100% damage input, and allows nukers behind to do their job safely and efficiently.
I've noticed a large difference in speed through Slaver's with a tank and without...(ele tank dc'd so monk bonded my ranger, used as a tank with stances, beat Forge that way, but lost alot of aggro sometimes.) |

Disregard that, it was massively bad luck. It was just a lot of it happening at once.
But I appreciate the advice. Each run after, I took notes on what went wrong, and most of those showed up here in the explanations, believe it or not. Woot for the dispelling of a rather disturbing hunch, and double woot for the ridding of the bad luck. Part of Duncan itself is luck, as PuG situations will have the inevitable ragequit or disconnect (de facto ragequit, etc.). 80% of the time (minus this bad luck streak that prompted the study and creation of this thread), when 8/8 stayed, victory was attained. Again, thanks for clearing it up! |
